Yeah, the short forms are great for engagement. But they don't make much money. The long forms are where the money is -- and the previous months where Medium paid a conversion bonus for new members as well as an engagement bonus definitely added to the bottom line. My whole strategy was dependent on attracting non-Medium readers to my long forms and picking up conversion bonuses, which the new MLM membership model does not support. (Only the individual who convinces them to sign up gets the bonus, not everyone whose stuff they read before signing up.) I have to rethink my strategy. :-)
