Yeah. Fortunately, he was an engineer, who was friends with other engineers. They figured a way to lift the corner up and put a replacement beam in. Not as permanent as a solid beam top to bottom, but good enough.

As our architect in charge of our solar installation warned us, without additional pillars to support the offset walls of our house (the upstairs is slightly wider than the downstairs), the roof could still fail in earthquake conditions. The Caribbean is geologically active. Mostly volcanoes, but some earthquakes as well. The last significant one was in the 1800s.

"Good enough" is probably sufficient. 😁
