We wanted someplace that was within a day's travel of upstate NY, since my dad's 96, and if we had to get there unexpectedly, we'd have to get there quickly. We originally looked at Nova Scotia, since we'd visited on a cruise and loved the people and the area, but an immigration lawyer said basically we were too old -- because of their healthcare system, they want people who are paying in, not drawing down. That left the Caribbean. We wanted someplace that spoke English, that was not run-down and crowded, and that had lots of high-end services. We came down to take a look, since Nevis seemed to meet our requirements on paper, and absolutely fell in love with the island and its people. Everyone is just so wonderful! It's very relationship-oriented, which we'd really been starved for.

And thanks for saying I don't look old enough to retire. It's because I never had kids. That's what gives people gray hair! :-D
