Try commenting. Like your normal self, not mentioning your crush. Personal notes always come across as either creepy or arrogantly entitled (unless it's a legit private message, like you need to give someone your email address, so you can work on something together), and often both.
Friendship or romance based on the written word can be quite strong, though. So don't lurk and think "if only". It could be something!
