This reminded me of the trip I took to the Dutch island of Saba during a prolonged multi-year draught. There were maybe 5 blades of green grass on the entire island. But every window box had it's bounty of brightly colored flowers. When asked, the tour guide replied that people used their water rations for their flowers instead of themselves. Because beauty mattered more than cleanliness. 🙂
