They are. And MUCH better than old fountain pens. I had a collection of antique ones from the 20s and 30s that were pretty to look at, but impossible to write with. Well, you could write slow calligraphy with them, I suppose. But keeping the ink color consistent, with no spotting or speckling, and not ending up covered in ink yourself, was pretty difficult. Modern fountain pens are a joy to write with.
