There's got to be more than just "someone discovers something", since that's been part of formulaic story synopses since I started writing in the 90s. What exactly is the nature of this discovery? The viewer/reader discovers some epic wisdom that is true for the character and, oh yeah, true for them, too? Lots of little discoveries like Easter eggs hidden in the background?
I think you were trying to illustrate the concept with your article, and a how-to article is essentially different from a fictional work with regard to how much spoon feeding the audience needs.
