There was a school a friend sent her son to, that believed kids should study whatever they wanted to -- even if that had nothing to do with "recommended curriculums". There was one kid in the school who had no interest in reading, and didn't learn to do it until he was 12. At that point, he was motivated, and mastered it in 2 weeks. He ended up becoming a lawyer.
