The water pistol spooked them. They probably would have been easier to get out without it... like I said, these were very well-behaved goats. You can see in the picture that one has a rope around her neck. That means someone owns her, so she's used to dealing with people, and being let in and out of gates. She probably goes home every night to sleep in her cozy little shed, then gets let out again in the morning after she's milked.
