The source article is not predicting how likely you are to die of Covid. It's reporting on population adjusted percentages of deaths. Since, you are correct, non-whites are more likely to die of Covid than whites, that only strengthens the source article's conclusion, that there are vast pockets of Covid among whites. Because so many, many more have to get it, to produce a higher number of deaths.
If you're trying to say the difference is down to the white population having a different age distribution than the non-white population, why would that take so long to show up in the deaths?
