The issue with rabbits, as I understand it, is that they can live to be 20 years old or more. People buy them for kids at Easter, without thinking this through. The kids get bored, eventually, because you can't really do anything with them. They don't play fetch or chase feather toys. I worked with someone whose husband bought a bunny for the kids. She kept the rabbit (for 19 years) because she liked the quiet, undemanding communion with it. But if she hadn't, it would have ended up in a shelter in year 1.
