I was trying to write. The cat was trying to sit on my keyboard. Rubbing her ears on my screen. Or falling off of the table, pulling my notes with her.

Finally, she left. I didn’t ask where she’d gone, pleased to work uninterrupted.

Until it was time to leave my office. I wanted to keep the air-conditioned coolness inside. That meant the cat had to come…
