Reminds me of a great short story. A lonely woman blames being overweight for her unpopularity. Her coworkers dislike her and say rude things about her behind her back. She finds a lamp with a very weak genie in it. She wishes to be beautiful, and she's magically thin. After staring in wonder at her reflection, she decides that her new body deserves a new look to show it off. She gets a new haircut and wardrobe, her coworkers like her new confidence, she's making friends, she gets serious about a guy, they move in together... and when she looks at herself in the mirror at their new place, she sees her appearance never changed. The genie was very weak. He could only make her reflection thin and beautiful. He didn't have the power to change her. Only she could do that. Everything else happened because of her change in attitude.
