Reminded me of the pre-wedding interview we had to undertake before getting approval for a church wedding. The interviewer danced around this question for about 15 minutes, before we figured out they wanted to know if my husband had ever been baptized by a Christian religion. Because it matters for which parts of a Catholic wedding you are allowed to include. (In fairness, even knowing his background and current beliefs, I'd be hard pressed to describe his religion in a way that made sense to anyone else, let alone the multifaith journey that got him there.) But it would have saved everyone a great deal of frustration if they'd been able to just ASK what they needed to know.
