My old house in NY, the furnace repeatedly went out because the pilot light blew out. When the guys came to investigate, they found a hole in the chimney, so whenever the water heater turned on, it blew out the furnace. I was very VERY lucky that the furnace had an automatic gas shutoff, or I could have easily had an explosion!
