My 3 earlier cats were shelter cats. After I got married to someone with asthma, we had to have Siberians if we were going to have cats. Our first was from a local breeder going out of business because her husband had cancer. One of their breeding mothers. She made it to either 16 or 18, depending on whether the breeder or the vet had accurate records of her birth year. Our 2nd was from a reputable breeder, who socialized the cats and havanese dogs in their home. Our kitten was her daughter's "pocket cat", carried around in the kangaroo pocket of her sweatshirt. When the 1st cat died, we tried to find new kittens so the younger cat would have company. It took over 2 years to find another reputable breeder.
