Like everything, it's a pendulum. Get super excited, swing too far one way. Get burned out, swing too far the other way. Eventually, we all find our sustainable level. The honest interactions still shine through, and writers need the feedback of "worth clapping for but did not engage the reader enough to prompt them to respond", too -- that tells us when we're close but not quite on target. :-)
