I'm glad you found it compelling, and gave the story some wider visibility! I saw your post after I'd already commented on your reply to my original article, so I'm copying it here. Keep everything neat and tidy. :-)

Your running example is exactly what I was talking about with the process improving. Instead of measuring a single metric -- speed -- and making it the arbiter of success or failure, you analyzed what you wanted out of your running -- consistency -- and started measuring that. You are also finding ways to improve that metric (such as gamification... giving yourself extra credit counts!).

The repetition I was referring to is of doing something that doesn't work over and over again, hoping that sheer volume will change your outcome.

So, for example, the writer who can't sell any of their work, but keeps writing... if all they do is keep writing, they may get a little better, but after a while they'll plateau. If they research the market, read and analyze other successful writers, and do other forms of deliberate practice, they'll get better.
