I was researching statistics for a story I was writing. Approximately 75% of all pregnancies do not go to term. 75%! That means a successful pregnancy is actually the exception rather than the norm. That was the rationale behind not telling anyone until you were at least 3 months along...most nonviable pregnancies failed within that timeframe. If you made it that far, odds were good you could make it all the way. These conservative laws are made with a complete lack of understanding about scientific reality. And it is the marginalized members of society who have to pay for that. The ones who can't travel to a different state for medical care. Or who don't conform to the narrative of a "good" person suffering the tragedy of a miscarriage, versus a "bad" person who "did something to lose the baby".
