I was never afraid of the dentist, but I dreaded going to the orthodontist. Every time, he'd say, "That tooth is going to have to come out." I had, as he liked to say, "an Irish jaw". Which is the right size for baby teeth, and way too small to hold adult teeth. Or, looked at another way, my adult teeth were way too large for the mouth they'd been given. :-)
