I remember when I was visiting Germany, there was a huge news story about how the Autobahn had just been repaired 50 years ago, and it needed repairs *already*. This was *shocking*!

I was shocked, too, but in amazement that repairs had lasted more than about 5 years! :-) Sounds like the UK manages their road repairs like they do in the US, not like in Germany.
