I do have a few points to mitigate your issues. Mostly, it can be summed up as pick your cruise line wisely. They all have different demographics, from cruises that look like spring break in Ft Lauderdale (complete with wet Tshirt and hairiest back competitions) to geriatric specials where the most physically demanding task is getting on and off a tour bus. Some specialize in adventure travel, some focus on in-depth connections with locals. And the ships come in all sizes, too, from 100 people to 3000. Then, there are the price plans, from all inclusive (including drinks, tip, or even including butler service!) to budget nickel-and-diming where absolutely everything beyond the basic buffet with water to drink (ice cream bar, pool side food and drink, or even getting a lounger by the pool) costs extra.
If you don't like the size of the cruise, or the age of the cruisers, you are on the wrong line for you.
PreCovid, we loved cruising. Our next cruise was going to be on Viking Ocean, that specializes in immersive experiences, all inclusive, for intelligent adults that like to learn. Pricey, but perfect for us.
I'm too afraid of COVID to enjoy a cruise now, though. :-(
