I agree that social media, promised to unite people across the world, did precisely the opposite, causing division the likes of which are staggering in scope. But I disagree that the problem is "the internet". As someone who used to have to dig through musty books on library shelves to find obscure facts, the Internet has made my life infinitely better. Email, to send information in seconds that would cost $80 for a secure courier and arrive 2 days later. The ability to find phone numbers, addresses, and business hours for restaurants and stores. Ratings and reviews in an easily searchable way. The list of benefits is endless. The list of problems...can all be summed up as companies who create products designed to hijack people's brains and get them addicted.
