How can you forget the scene where he tries to explain his presence where he shouldn't be, by inventing an alien attack by tentacled creatures? Complete with sound effects? Just thinking of it completely cracks me up. That's totally Steve Martin.

He's not non-stop funny in movies. He's usually a quiet, understated, everyman character. Which makes his bouts of lunacy that much more impactful.

Personally, Housesitter is one of my favorite movies. It's a delightful romance, about how the reality we create is more important than the reality others try to create for us, and the transformational power of love.

I've heard that playing the straight man in a comedy is harder than being the funny one. In that case, he is legitimately a comedy genius.
