Heh. We still did, at least in my house. Sugar and fat. My dad has always been extremely health conscious. Part of the reason for my obsession with Friendly’s Franks was that we couldn’t have hot dogs at home, because of the nitrates and their carcinogens. So, of course, I ate bacon and hot dogs whenever I could outside of the house. :-) Fortunately, food suppliers have realized people were avoiding these things, and now you can get no-nitrate-added products.
