"Education" used to be the privilege of the wealthy, and it taught them reason and discernment. As well as the powers-that-be of the time's view of their place in the world, etc. (So, you know, also not a perfect thing.) Then, the idea of "education for all" rolled out "public education". But there was no need to educate the people who were destined to serve the upper classes in reason and discernment. Instead, they were taught how to shut up, sit still, and follow instructions. (It was modeled after army training, which is why class desks were set in rows and columns... it's how army soldiers would stand.) It was designed to make people predictable and interchangeable. Unschooling methodologies address many of your concerns with education, raising students who are well-adapted for life, and who are self-determinant. In a post-scarcity environment, where your basic needs are met by a Universal Basic Income, your success will not be tied to your contribution toward productivity, itself an outdated concept. It is my fervent wish that people will be valued based on how they uplift the experience of life for those around them. That's the goal I'm working towards, anyway.
