But you learned so much while writing! It wasn't a waste. I did my market research, and my first book was on a subject that people would have wanted to read... but it was total crap. (Well, not TOTAL crap. It was a "learning experience".) I rewrote the 2nd one 18 times. That one ended up getting published. By the time book 4 came out, I'd actually become a fairly decent writer, and won a bunch of awards.
