Because so much depends on brain chemistry, other things one does to improve brain chemistry (getting proper sleep, good nutrition, lower stress, exercise, etc.) can also improve depression. If you've ever had depression (not "been depressed", which is an emotion, but "had depression", which is a medical condition), you remain much more likely to experience depression again in the future.
