Beautifully written article on a tough subject. We faced similar issues with my mom inventing stories to explain what she was experiencing. And unless they were actively terrifying for her (at one point she was convinced my dad was dead and she was being haunted by his ghost) the doctors said we should go along with her, without reinforcing her beliefs. Not to correct her. Sounds like you got the same advice. It helps to know, whatever heartbreaking conversation you have, she won't remember it. Not enough, but it does help. We're facing the issue of car keys for my dad, now, and it's tough. My brother is about a half hour away, and I'm a 9 hour plane ride away under the best of conditions. I've come to stay with dad, and am doing the driving while I'm here, but... Not a long term solution.
